Bears quarterback Justin Fields is in his second season with the Bears and has established himself as one of the league’s most exciting young players.
Showing star potential with elite athleticism and speed, Fields recorded 1,143 rushing yards, nearly breaking Lamar Jackson’s one-season rushing record. Fields still has work to do as a passer, but this season was a big step forward for the former first-round pick.
But beyond his improvement on the football field, Fields has come into his own as the team’s leader. This is what the Bears’ new president and CEO, Kevin Warren, knew before Fields snapped in Chicago.
Fields and Warren crossed paths while in the Big Ten, including during the COVID year when Fields organized a petition to help restart football.
That experience in 2020 showed Warren that Fields was a great leader and exactly what the Bears needed.
“What has taught me about Justin is that he is passionate,” Warren said. I called him up on draft day and was thrilled that he was drafted by the Bears because that’s what it takes from a leadership perspective.
“I have the utmost respect for him because I know he will do everything in his power to use the talent he needs to be a leader. if someone wasn’t upset [not] It really bothers me when I’m playing. If I was in the Big Ten and someone did the same thing that I did, yeah, I would have rebelled so I could play. So I think that’s great. “
We’ve seen Fields prove his worth as a leader this season. Even with more losses, Fields and his team didn’t quit. It saw Fields step in and talk to receiver Chase Claypool, who exploded in a Week 17 outburst against the Lions.
