A Kenyan LGBTQ+ activist whose body was found in a trunk last week was found suffocated and had a sock in his mouth, a government official said Wednesday after an autopsy.
The body of 25-year-old designer and model Edwin Chiroba was found in a roadside trunk in the Rift Valley in the western part of the country on January 4th.
“According to our findings, he died as a result of asphyxiation due to asphyxiation,” Johansen Oduor said at a post-mortem press conference.
“He suffered from what we call cyanosis. When we looked at his nails, they had a bluish tint, which indicated he was lacking oxygen when he died. ‘ continued Johansen Oduall, who said a sock was found in the victim’s mouth.

Five people were arrested in connection with the murder. Among those suspects is Jackton Odiambo, a freelance photographer who, according to reports, was Edwin Chirova’s lover and is accused of murdering him.
In Kenya, like many African countries, LGBTQ people face insecurity and discrimination in a predominantly Christian, conservative society where homosexuality is taboo.
Same-sex sexual relations are punishable by law with a maximum penalty of 14 years in prison.
The killing of a young LGBTQ activist has drawn strong international condemnation.
The case follows several unsolved murders of sexual minority rights advocates Sheila Lumumba, Erika Chandra, and Joash Mossoti, according to the Kenya National Human Rights Commission.
