When the first Stab Edit of the Year entry, Kael Walsh’s “Idiot Box,” was posted last March, one commenter, who identified himself as QuadThrusterSetup, wrote, “Good luck.”
In hindsight, it would have taken more than luck to succeed as a challenger to the throne. Especially with the intractable amount of his A+ clips, the fine editing and the banger soundtrack. All these things make the surf part great.
I even heard a few A-listers whisper that they decided not to make a Stab Edit Of The Year entry just because they thought there was no way to beat Kael. Today, we can officially say that their self-awareness intuition was indeed effective.
“Idiot Box” has officially won 2022 Stab Edit Of The Year.
Over 40% of Stab Premium viewers voted for Kael over the other 10 SEOTY entries. He then got his 20 votes in his Stab Surfer Of The Year poll (the next closest edit got his 7 votes). “For me, there’s no real competition in it,” said Noah Dean. “That was the worst edit I’ve seen in years. It was all hammered.
These hammers ended up mining Kael up to Bitcoin (currently worth $23,000 USD).
I called him to see how it felt. He was at the airport after scoring at an unnamed place.
Of course, he’s working on another project.
