Brooklyn legend Buckshot has detailed how the 2003 Black Moon comeback was derailed by producers Just Blaze and Jay-Z.
Seeking a big comeback after their 1999 studio album War Zone, Black Moon knew they needed a huge single to grab the immediate attention of hip-hop listeners. Known for having a good grasp of what a single should sound like, Buckshot put himself and fellow Brooklyn his group his members in a prime position for success.
“Evil Dee and Just Blaze knew each other,” Buckshot explained on Doggy Diamonds TV. “So what happened was, we were just about to release an album, and like I said, I knew how to make a single mate. I helped people make singles and they didn’t even know how to make singles Dee was making beats right before we left I was just that I was that Because I’m a man.I’m a musician.”
Newly produced by DJ Evil Dee of Da Beatminerz, this beat was the opening track for Black Moon’s 2003 comeback album Total Eclipse. Buckshot, who sampled a loop of The Little Boy Blues’ “Seed of Love,” was thrilled with the potential for his soon-to-be lead single.

This beat, the intermezzo from Jay-Z’s 2003 “The Black Album,” quickly became a classic. Disappointed buckshot did not surprise. Stealing beats was standard for Blaze, according to the Brooklyn rapper. “Me and Just Blaze have had problems for years because of stealing beats,” Buckshot said. “He’s a beat thief.”
Just Blaze, on the other hand, felt that the outcome was doomed. Blaze said in his 2013 he spoke with Revolt, “There have been so many ‘coincidences. That song was supposed to find its way into the world, so it tends to feel like it was supposed to happen. Blaze also noted that Jay-Z wrote the song between press listening sessions for his upcoming studio album, The Black Album.
