milwaukee – A 21-year-old Milwaukee man has been charged with felony murder in connection with the July 2020 shooting of a man. The defendant is Jahki Meneese Williams.

Late on the night of July 29, 2020, a vehicle pulled up at the Milwaukee Police Department’s Third District station, according to the criminal complaint. There were four people in the car, one of whom was lying in the back seat and had a bullet wound to the head. As the person was being removed from the vehicle, “a bullet casing fell out of the vehicle,” the complaint states. A life-saving effort failed, and the shooting victim, whom Menace Williams called “Rhino,” was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police interviewed three other people in the vehicle. They all offered similar stories. Three said they went near 50th and Center to sell marijuana to people looking for it. When the vehicle arrived, the defendant and Sai got into the vehicle. They demanded marijuana and the “sai” had a gun, the complaint says. According to the complaint, a passenger in the back seat of the car said he had hidden a gun “next to the map sheet.” Those in the car told Menise Williams and “Rhino” that marijuana was in the trunk of the car. At that point Meneth Williams got out of the car to check the trunk. According to the complaint, “Sai,” who had a gun, remained in the vehicle to keep an eye on his three others. When the car’s driver put it in gear and tried to speed, he left Menise Williams behind. A backseat passenger told police as the car sped away from the scene, “The rhino was fighting him. The passenger told police that his life was in danger and he didn’t know what he could do but shoot.” The people in the car called 911 and were told to drive to the police station, so they drove to District 3.

During the course of the investigation, Milwaukee Police identified Menise Williams as a suspect in the shooting. He was arrested on September 28, 2022.

When questioned by police, Menise Williams initially denied knowing anything about the incident, and also denied knowing “Rhino.” However, according to the complaint, Menise Williams later changed her story. He “admitted to arranging for someone to buy marijuana from someone through Snapchat,” according to the complaint, which he said was “a plan to deprive people of marijuana.” Meneese Williams stated that “Sai” has her BB gun. Menise Williams indicated she got out of her car to check the trunk for marijuana. As the car began to speed, he “believed they were trying to get the ‘rhinoceros’ out, but suddenly defendant heard at least one gunshot,” the complaint says. “At some point the next day, I learned that ‘Sai’ had been murdered,” Menace Williams told police, according to the complaint.

Meneese Williams made his first appearance in Milwaukee County Courthouse on Sunday, October 2nd. Her cash security deposit was set at her $100,000. He is scheduled to return to court for his October 10 preliminary hearing.
