JJ Spaun may never wear a shirt again.
After making waves in the golf world with his wardrobe choices at the Sentry Tournament of Champions last week, Spaun maintained a relaxed atmosphere at the Waialae Country Club during the second round of the Sony Open on Friday.
Just days after his T-5 finish at the Plantation Course, Spaun is in contention for a second PGA Tour victory of his career (the first being at the 2022 Valero Texas Open). He tied for second with his Montgomery Taylor on 36 holes, one stroke behind his leader Chris Kirk.
Montgomery has been playing great since the end of 2022, finishing in the top 20 on six of his seven starts during the wraparound campaign. In fact, of all his players on tour, he was the most under par so far this season (83 under).

Chris Kirk trying to end monster drought
Chris Kirk last won a PGA Tour title 2,791 days ago (almost eight years). He’s looking to end that drought this weekend.
Aided by just two bogeys on 36 holes thanks to rounds 64-65, Kirk holds an outright lead with two days to go.
“My swing feels good this week. I’ve been driving the ball really well for the most part,” Kirk said after the round. I may not have hit as many putts, but I feel like I’m getting the ball rolling well.I’m hitting my line.My speed was pretty good.Same recipe more. “
I was also asked about my long journey from battling depression and alcoholism to where I am today.
Now that’s someone easy to root for.
He faces Montgomery in the final group on Saturday.
Jordan Spieth makes history (and not the good kind)

Jordan Spieth was the first round co-leader and looked poised for a weekend run after picking up his 14th win on the PGA Tour.
Then Friday happened.
Thanks to a 5-over 75 on Day 2, Spieth became the first player since 2020 to lead or co-lead after the first round and miss out on qualifying (Matt Every, Arnold Palmer Invitational). He is the 7th player in the last 10 years.
Spieth won’t be on site for American Express with a shipment next week.

We almost scored another on Friday when McKenise-Hughes put the ball just inches from the drink. After contact, his caddy had to grab his shirt to keep him from falling backwards.
