Montgomery – Gov. Kay Ivey announced Tuesday the appointment of Stacia Robinson as director of the Alabama Office of Minority Affairs. Her Nichelle Nix, who has held this position for the past six years, is moving into the private sector to do her legal work.
Robinson comes to this role from Benechoice Companies LLC, a benefits and financial choice company. He also serves as District Manager for Colonial Life Insurance Company. The governor describes Robinson as a small business advocate. Robinson’s expertise in business engagement includes employee benefits design and management, advertising consulting, and professional speaking.
“As we turn the page and prepare to reset state government at the inauguration scheduled for January, I know that we will be able to assemble the strongest team to best serve all Alabama people. I am proud. Today in 2022, I can look back on the significant progress I have made during my first term and be excited about the work ahead. Stacia Robinson is one of those efforts. Robinson also recently sold the BNI-Business Network Int’l franchise, which she owned for 25 years. Further reiterating the fact that Robinson is a small business advocate, her local involvement in Montgomery includes the Montgomery Industrial Development Board, the NFIB Leadership Council, the Alabama Small Business Commission, and It includes service among many other undertakings. She was also the first African-American woman to serve on the board of directors of the Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce. As Chair of the Council for Small Businesses (COSBE) Marketing & Promotion Task Force, she received her ADDY Award for her “Greater Buy Her Montgomery” campaign. Robinson is thrilled to bring her experience to her Ivey administration.

She spent her seven years in the Air Force as a communications computer officer and earned a Master of Science in Counseling and Human Development from Troy College in Montgomery. Prior to that, she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia. Governor Ivey remains committed to keeping Alabama innovative and preparing the state’s students and workforce for tomorrow’s economy, and he trusts Robinson to help in that effort.

Robinson’s appointment will take effect on January 1, the day before the governor’s second term. Governor Ivey will take office on his Monday, January 16, 2023.
