On this day at the height of the 21st century, legendary Yonkers trio The LOX (Living Off Experience) released their sophomore full-length LP, aptly titled. We Are The Street On the Ruff Ryders/Interscope imprint.
Produced primarily by Double R’s in-house producer Swizz Beatz, We Are The Streets had significantly more commercial success than its predecessor. money, power and respect, solidified LOX’s hardcore hip-hop fanbase. This sophomore album secured lOX’s tenure in the game despite subsequent fallouts with Sean “Diddy” Combs and Bad Boy Records. The album was propelled by hit singles, but ironically the production of two of the three main singles was outsourced. “Ryde Or Die Bitch” produced by Timbaland and “Recognize” produced by DJ Premier.
The album had a short period on the Billboard charts, reaching number five on the Billboard 200 and number two on the US Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums.
Hats off to Jada, Sheek Styles, Swizz, Eve, Dee, Waah, and the entire Ruff Ryder camp to pay tribute to this important piece of hip-hop history!
