MILWAUKEE — Questions about cardiac arrest and interest in the condition skyrocketed after Buffalo Bills safety Dumar Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest Monday night in Cincinnati.
On Twitter, #cardiacarrest trended nationwide on Tuesday as many Americans continued to pray for Hamlin’s recovery.
“Cardiac arrest almost always means that the heart stops beating, most often due to an electrical fault,” says a noninvasive cardiologist at the SSM Health Fond du Lac Regional Clinic. Valderrama went on to say that Hamlin’s immediate access to medical care had greatly improved his chances of survival, but Hamlin’s family continues to ask people to pray for him. increase.
“You don’t have to be an athlete to suffer from this. There are more than 350,000 cardiac arrests outside of hospitals in the United States each year,” added Balderama. “Unfortunately, 70-90% of people die before reaching the hospital. ”
