The Indian Hip-Hop Dance Championship is a five-day dance festival that will take place this year on January 7th at the Police Hockey Ground in Gatkopal. The event has been successfully held for the past 11 years.
The winner of this competition will represent India at the World Hip Hop Dance Championship in the USA. To date, the Indian team has been to the United States on her eight occasions and has competed against 55 countries at the world level.
The Indian team has twice won bronze medals at the USA’s World Hip Hop Dance Championships in 2015 and 2022.
This year, auditions were held in 20 cities across India, with 4,000 shortlisted from over 25,000 participants. Just 400 dancers will compete in the grand finale on January 7, 2023.
The contest judges come from Austria, England, Hungary and India. The great thing about this competition is that anyone can participate in it, regardless of background, financial situation, etc. They believe that dance is a sport and deserves respect and support just like any other sport in India.
