Whether you want to force a running app to quit or an app running in the background, the process is easy on your iPhone.
In an ideal mobile world, apps run smoothly all the time. However, sometimes the app freezes and gets stuck and simply cannot be shut down. As Murphy’s Law says, this is probably the right thing to do when you’re trying to break records at a game or when you’ve almost finished entering your personal information to sign up for something. Whatever the reason or app, just like any software or application on your computer, you can force quit and restart your iPhone without having to completely reset it.
Keep in mind that force quitting an app doesn’t always happen because something is wrong. Unless you have a reason to, you should kill apps you aren’t actively using rather than leaving them running in the background (think fitness trackers or navigation). app, etc.).
If you want to force quit an app on your iPhone, including newer and older model devices such as the iPhone 14, follow these steps:
1. from Home Screen Or directly from within the app that got stuck or you want to restart, swipe up Approximately one-third of the way horizontally from the bottom of the screen. All your currently open apps are centered and side-by-side on the left, so you can swipe right to browse them.
2. swipe up On the app you want to kill – this will be the app you’re currently using, so it’s probably the first one. Look! This will force it to close.
Are you using the latest model and best iPhone? On older model iPhones with a home button at the bottom, double-click the circular button to go to the same screen. The currently open apps are displayed side by side in the same way. From there, follow step 2.
Besides shutting down malfunctioning apps, many of us open different apps every day and forget to close them. Click or swipe an app to continue your day. However, some people are unaware that these apps are still running in the background. Case in point: When I took the screenshots for this article, I realized I had over 40 apps open in the last few days! This may slow down your phone’s performance.
It’s a good idea to perform these steps regularly and kill any apps you no longer use but that you notice are still open. Hold your phone in one hand and keep swiping your thumb up each time the app moves to the front of the deck. Fun Tip: Use your index and middle fingers to force two apps side by side to force quit at the same time.
Force quitting an iPhone app does not delete any data from the app or delete any saved progress or information. If you want to completely remove an app, check out our guide on how to uninstall apps from your iPhone.
