After the Houston Astros won their second World Series title since 2017, owner Jim Crane warned the club may not hire a new general manager until 2023.
it hasn’t happened yet.
James Crick has turned down a one-year contract to return this season.
“I’m going to interview a lot of people and see where it goes,” Crane told MLB.com in November.
It is now January 16th.
Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reported that Crane is interviewing candidates highlighted by Michael Hill, Dana Brown and Bobby Evans.
Hill was a longtime executive who held various roles with the Miami Marlins. He has served as his president of Major League Baseball’s senior vice of field operations for the past two years.
Brown has served as vice president of scouting for the Atlanta Braves for the past four years.
Evans has held several front office roles with the San Francisco Giants and played integral roles in three World Series championships in six years.
With most of the Astros’ championship roster back with manager Dusty Baker, there doesn’t seem to be much urgency in filling the GM role.
