WHITEFISH BAY, WI — Friday was International Holocaust Remembrance Day. It is his 1945 anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp. In Wisconsin, both Jews and non-Jews took time to reflect.
Samantha Abramson is Executive Director of the Holocaust Education Resource Center. As a division of the Milwaukee Jewish League, HERC advocates for Holocaust education and provides educational materials for Holocaust talks.
At a time when cases of anti-Semitism are on the rise in Wisconsin and across the country, Abramson said it’s very important that we learn from the Holocaust and take anti-Semitic incidents seriously.
“We as human beings need to stand up for each other. Without that advocacy and education, we can find destruction. It’s really important that we’re there,” Abramson said.
According to a 2021-22 report compiled by the Milwaukee Jewish League, 95 anti-Semites were identified in Wisconsin that year. Read the full report below.
