RomBak, Cambodia’s international hip-hop dance competition, celebrated its 10th anniversary on Saturday at Factory Phnom Penh.
Following the success of its first two fights in December 2017 and February 2019, Rom Bak has established itself as Cambodia’s only annual international hip-hop event.
Breakdancing is gaining credibility globally as it becomes a new sport at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. Rom Bak recognizes the importance of Cambodian involvement in this international sport and is working to help grow this new hip-hop movement.
RomBak founder Vibol Lim said there was no hip-hop battle in Cambodia before.
“Then we saw the Tiny Toones, street kids who didn’t have the space to showcase their talent, so we created Rombak for them in 2013. Tonight is our 10th anniversary,” he said at the event.
“We started small, but over time it got bigger. From my point of view, I would like to celebrate this event at least once a year.”
“I sincerely hope that hip-hop will become more popular in Cambodia because the dance form is growing throughout the region, especially in Vietnam and Thailand, where events are frequent. I want to hold a Hop Champion event.”
MC Lisha, who hosted the event, said: She is very happy and proud of the abilities of the younger generation, because for a long time she could not host. ”
