A special event celebrating the culture and art of hip-hop will take place in Wheeling next month.

Hip Hop: A Black Tie Affair takes place at the Wheeling Artisan Center on February 25th and features the work of local artists and hosts.

Wheeling YWCA and Wheeling Heritage are seeking submissions from hip-hop visual artists for the art exhibition and video submissions from presenters who wish to participate in the “Please Listen To My Demo” screening that is part of the event . In the video, the host is supposed to perform an a cappella 16-bar poem using hip-hop as the medium.

Artists wishing to have their work considered must submit by Friday, February 3 at wheelingheritage.org/hip-hop.

Moderators wishing to submit a 16-bar poem can send the audio file to YWCA Wheeling Cultural Diversity and Community Outreach Director Ron Scott Jr. (cdcodirector@ywcawheeling.org).

According to the organizers, artists should remember that this is a public event open to all ages.

The evening was capped off by two local DJs, DJ Stealth and DJ Phurcat, playing a mix of old and new hip-hop with a blend of breakbeats and original samples, culminating in a DJ battle that showcased wide reach and creativity. increase.of this genre
