SPRINGIFELD — Springfield police haven’t caught the shooter of business man Thomas Gill, nor have they identified a suspect.

Gil was shot while riding in an SUV last week.
News Center 7’s Haley Kosik stayed up late Monday afternoon with Gill to talk to his family.
Thomas ‘Tom’ Gill has owned Gill’s Quality Meat Market for over 20 years, and his brother told Kosik that it’s been a week since he was shot, but 25 years since owning the business. He said it should be the anniversary.
“I used to watch Tom all the time. He taught me a lot about life.”
About 50 friends, family and customers gathered outside the Gills Quality Meat Market to stay up all night, Kosik said.

Tom’s brother, Kenny Gill, spoke at the rally and said his brother was perfect for the job.
“My brother Tom was 6 feet 7 inches when he was at his healthiest,” he said. “And he was a butcher, so he weighed 240.”
Thomas Gill purchased his land on the corner of Selma Avenue and Sunset Boulevard in 1998.
Less than a mile from his shop, someone shot him on Thursday night near Kenton and Burt streets.
“All we can hope for is for people to decide, ‘Enough is enough,'” Kenny told Cosick.

Some people from the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, including Sheriff Deb Burchett, attended the memorial service to support the family.
“He literally took his shirt off my back,” Kenny said. “He was a big man so he might be a little bit, but he’ll give it to you.”
Koshik said that’s how he wants his family to be remembered.

Tom’s eldest son will run Gil’s Quality Meets.
According to his obituary webpage, a visitation will be held at Conroy Funeral Home on E. High Street from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
A private family service will be held at a later date.
The family has asked for donations in lieu of flowers, and a donation account at Richwood Bank will be made in Tom’s honor for his son and grandson.
