On Tuesday, I will formally take the oath of office at the Rhode Island State Capitol and serve as the new State Senator for the 38th District (Westerly, part of Charlestown and South Kingstown). I am honored and humbled to have the opportunity to serve our community. As everyone says, the real work begins now.

- Make State Agencies Work More Effectively: Whether it’s a license or benefits issue you’re applying for, or you want to make changes to your state car park or other facility, we have a team that can help. - Feedback on pending invoices: You can always call or email me when the bill is drafted, when it goes to a committee vote (we’ll get a committee quota next week), and until the bill goes to a full vote in the Senate. increase.
- Testify against bills pending before the Commission: Personal stories are powerful and can go a long way during bill hearings. Write a paragraph or an entire letter and email it to the entire committee and CC me if you are in my district. - Dive deep into statewide issues: All of your ideas and feedback regarding new state initiatives and funding needs may be reflected in state legislation. Get your ideas at least three weeks in advance, as we have a mid-February billing deadline.
- Coming to City Hall: I’m planning my first Town Hall at the end of January to give updates and get feedback on key legislative issues. Priorities for 2023
I have already met with stakeholders on some of the key big picture issues facing our district, including housing, climate change and climate resilience. Of course, I plan to do a lot of work to build support for Shoreline Access Bill H-8055. Education will also be a huge priority for the Senate leadership and myself. This includes changes to how Rhode Island spends her $1 billion in state aid to school districts each year.
One of the things I’m learning is the dynamic between the House and Senate. There is always a give and take between what House leaders prioritize, what Senate leaders prioritize, and what individuals or groups of Senators and representatives want to prioritize.About House and Senate Leadership Priorities Please see the following article.
