milwaukee – A Milwaukee woman has been charged with second-degree reckless bodily harm and disorderly conduct after a girl was shot Monday, Nov. 14, on the north side of the city.
Prosecutors have admitted that Ajanay Pemberton opened fire inside the apartment building, but said he did not intend to hurt the girl.
Milwaukee police were first called to an apartment complex near Fond du Lac and Beale after a resident reported that Pemberton held gunpoint during an altercation, according to the criminal complaint. A few hours later, shortly before 7 p.m., police were recalled to the same address for the shooting, the complaint said. A 15-year-old girl was shot in her leg. She told the police at the hospital that the girl was assaulted by someone when she and three others entered the apartment complex. The victim said the group started running after someone shouted “gun”. The victim heard gunshots and realized he had been hit.
However, in an interview with police by Mirandized, Pemberton said he was “assaulted” by four people in a hallway and had his face scratched. Pemberton said he called someone over to get a gun and that four “attackers” fled. was attacked.

According to the complaint, Pemberton later called police and turned himself in, saying he was only trying to scare the four people, not hurt them.
Court records show that Pemberton first appeared in court on November 17 and her bond was set at $15,000. She is scheduled to appear in court on her November 28th.
