Genentech recently announced a series of marketing leader hires to kick off the new year.
The biotech company hired Dr. Erica Taylor as the company’s first Chief Marketing Officer and appointed Ozgun “Oz” Demir as its first Chief Marketing Officer.
Prior to rejoining Genentech, he was Strategy Officer and Chief of Staff for Roche’s global product strategy team, overseeing the creation and refinement of end-to-end oncology and research strategies. Prior to that role, he worked for Gilead Sciences, where he led the commercial build-out of the US launch of remedesivir during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Taylor previously worked at Genentech for 10 years in a series of roles. Now she plans to “embed a cutting-edge, innovative marketing capability aimed at building a world-class marketing organization.”
Demir most recently served as Executive Director of Oncology and Head of Digital Strategy at Novartis. Prior to that, he led Bayer’s digital strategy for multiple sclerosis (MS), hematology and women’s health in the US and European markets. He also led Pfizer’s digital transformation in emerging markets.
Oz is tasked with establishing a “long-term vision and strategy for improving the customer and patient experience” through integrated digital transformation across the marketing organization.

Genentech has been busy lately beyond its efforts to enhance its marketing and digital capabilities for the customer and patient experience.
In the fall, Genentech launched Futurelab+. This expands on his $10 million existing educational initiative to increase student interest in career opportunities in the biotechnology field.
The company also announced a direct-to-consumer campaign for Ocrevus in both English and Spanish for the MS community.
