Funkmaster Flex invited Tekashi 69 to send us some new music that will be live on Hot 97 this Thursday and he says he doesn’t care who’s doing what!
Tekashi 69 is based in New York and Funkmaster Flex issued a challenge to 69. Over the past few weeks, New York DJs have been issuing challenges to various artists to drop new music. Jadakiss, The Roots, Fabolous, Juelz Santana and others have previously been challenged by him by Funkflex.
Then comes hip-hop’s most controversial rapper. Flex issued a challenge and explained his why in his Instagram post on Monday morning (Jan. 16) asking his 2.8 million followers for their input.
“I no longer play 6IX 9INE music! formerly) consists of collaboration and testimony! …seems like these new rappers haven’t done it with/for anyone in 10-20 years!(They haven’t done it in 5 years) 🤷🏽♂️.”
Cleary Funk Flex added himself to the list of many who agreed to accept a plea bargain for Gunna. Gunna’s decision was contradicted by many after she blackballed her Tekashi 69 for “snitching” at Trey Way, resulting in an early release. Tekashi still had him in prison for nearly two years.
Flex wrote in the IG caption, “BOBBY SHMURDA, ROWDY REBEL, FETTY WAP, BOOSIE AND YOUNG THUG is the last in that standup tradition!”

Then came a shocking request from the legendary New York DJ, worthy of his own signature bomb sound effect. “6IX 9INE U GOT NEW MUSIC? Send it! Thursday at 7pm!” he wrote Flex.
Can Tekashi 69 accept Funkmaster Flex’s challenge and send us new music? There’s no question that 69 are working on new music. Akademiks had previously encouraged the rapper to release new music, but 69 was reluctant to do so.
Tekashi’s single “Gine” was the Brooklyn rapper’s final release in April 2022.
