NASHVILLE, Tennessee (WKRN) — Days after author, entrepreneur and lover of life Jamal Moore was found dead in East Nashville, News 2 told his friends and how I remember him.
Moore, 30, died of a stab wound after his body was found by a passerby shortly before noon on Saturday, Jan. 28, according to the Metro Nashville Police Department.
“We weren’t ready,” Moore’s friend Lee Crawford shook his head.
The thought of Moore’s death is difficult for the man’s friends to comprehend.
“It’s a shock. He’s not here for us to go and see him,” Crawford explained.
Moore was found on the lawn near the 800 block parking lot on Cherokee Avenue, hundreds of miles from his home in North Carolina.
“There are people from Nashville to Charlotte to eastern North Carolina who are still suffering because of his loss,” Crawford added.
He said Moore often stayed part-time in Nashville for his business as a short-term rental owner.
“He was a very social person, and he made friends wherever he went,” said Crawford. “If you’ve ever met him, you’ll understand that he was a go-getter and he had a lot of life.
With Moore’s life cut short, people like Crawford are left wanting answers.
Crawford told News2 that he was “just hurt” after losing his best friend.
Moore and Crawford hail from rural eastern North Carolina and married more than a decade ago with big dreams.
“Jamal has an amazing energy to him, so we quickly became best friends,” Crawford explained.
That energy touched many people through one of Moore’s published books. Through his reality series Hustle to Play. Or through events he hosted within the ministry.
“His spirit will definitely live on,” said Crawford. “The energy that Jamal brings to any person and any room is undeniable.”
According to friends, Moore’s life had a goal of giving back. They said Moore had an unwavering commitment to his family, serving as caretaker for his sisters and their children until he was stabbed and left to die on the side of the street.
“I can’t get Jamal back, but I still want justice and I want to shine a light on the kind of violence we see in the world every day. It’s really heartbreaking,” Crawford said.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help Moore’s family pay for funeral and other costs during this difficult time.
Meanwhile, subway police said a white SUV associated with Moore was found at a self-storage facility on Gallatin Avenue minutes after Moore’s body was found.
