Whether you’re an apologist, a slapper, a hater of Jim Harbaugh, or just indifferent to what he does, there are plenty of ways to wreck his future decisions.
Should he go back to Michigan? There are certainly many reasons why he should. He’s had incredible success over the last two seasons and is also a former Michigan player. His parents live next door to him and his children attend the same school he attended as a child. I have.
Or should he go to the NFL? The schedule is light and there is no form of recruitment at all. The salary is probably much higher and the job is mostly about football.He has had incredible professional success with several championships he has made it to the game and the Super Bowl. Of course, he’s 0-1 in football’s biggest game and that’s against his older brother.
Of course, he needs an offer from an NFL team before he can return to the professional ranks. If you’ve been listening to me over the past three seasons, the only reason he’s still in Ann Arbor is because he hasn’t gotten one of those things. He’s kicking his tires hard. Last year he flew to Minnesota to accept a job. It didn’t work out, but that’s what he wanted. After returning to UM, he swore to athletic director Warde Manuel that his affair with the NFL was over and would never happen again. Then earlier this week, he interviewed the Denver Broncos. However, Harbaugh is the Broncos’ second choice, with former New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton topping the list. Peyton is scheduled to give an interview with the Broncos on Tuesday, and it could be as early as Wednesday until we hear something about what Harbaugh will do.

Fox Sports host Colin Cowherd recently opened up about why he thinks Harbaugh is a better fit for Denver than Payton. Whether you love Cowherd or hate him, his arguments are pretty solid.
I’ve been praying for a more open, quarterback-friendly offense in Michigan, and Cowherd isn’t wrong. Harbour has an approach and it works well. It worked in San Diego, Stanford, San Francisco, and apparently now works in Michigan.
I can’t wait to see what happens. Payton is much more aggressive than Harbaugh, but he just walked away from the game and doesn’t have Drew Brees waiting for him in Denver. He also has a very comfortable commentator job at Fox, and it can be hard to give them up.
After all, Harbaugh wants to return to the NFL. Not clear at this time. But he clearly loves it in Michigan as well, which he’s repeated the last two seasons. Wherever he ends up, I’m sure he will do well. It’s the game waiting for now to see how it all ends up.
