Milwaukee — With thousands of flights canceled during the holiday season, some travelers to Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport are renting a car to get to their destination.
According to Hertz, demand for bookings, rebookings and one-way car rentals has increased in recent days.
Employees at other car rental companies said bad weather and cancellations had led to lower-than-usual inventories.
Steve Motel of Germantown, Wisconsin, said he had rented a car because his flight was canceled.
He said he was surprised to get a rental car so quickly.
“The rental car experience was great. The reason I’m getting it isn’t great. They canceled the flight to Nashville, so we’re driving,” the motel said. “Great. Now instead of flying for an hour and a half, I have to drive nine hours.”
