At launch, Fitbit’s new smartwatch didn’t come with third-party apps, but that seems to be changing. Fitbit also recently released new premium watch faces for the Sense 2 and Versa 4.
At launch, the Sense 2 and Versa 4’s Gallery Apps tab featured only Fitbit-made apps. EDA Scan, SpO2, Relax, Exercise, ECG, Timers, Alarms, Notifications, Weather, Find My Phone, and Settings.
Google Maps came out in late December, and while it was available for download, the turn-by-turn navigation didn’t really work, and the tiles are now obsolete.
Recently, an app called “MED ID 5.0” appeared on the list. It was created by a third-party developer to “carry your medical info” and is described as supporting Versa 4 and Sense 2. At this time it is not clear if that support was intentional or accidental (it will be removed).
Fitbit has not said whether the Versa 4 or Sense 2 will support third-party apps. The company hasn’t provided any developer documentation yet, nor does it even list the “Fitbit OS” or SDK that these two devices are running. Wi-Fi is present but deactivated, likely contributing to the lack of music playback on the device.
Meanwhile, Fitbit released two new watch faces for premium subscribers in December. There are Trials and Streaks available only on Sense 2 and Versa 4.
