Rochester, MN (KTTC) – Monday kicks off the first-ever Rochester Restaurant Week. This is his week-long celebration showcasing Rochester’s diverse dining scene with over 30 participating restaurants. However, the city has seen several traditional restaurants close recently.
Joe Ward, president of Experience Rochester, said: “It’s always a very slow time for business after the holiday season, but it will still take time to get out of the pandemic and reach the larger audience that everyone is looking for. “We just thought of a great way to support it and hope this is the start of something for years to come.”
Newts’ said downtown traffic was down in 2020 and difficult to recover, forcing restaurants to close as a result. However, another location north of Rochester has benefited greatly from Restaurant Week.
“I think it raises awareness. There are a lot of great restaurants out there, some new and some that have been here for years. It’s an invitation to see something new, and this week, in the very long term, it’s one thing,” Ward said.
Sami Lo, owner of Otori Sushi, is also participating in Restaurant Week.
“Our business is slowly getting better every day and we use a lot of social media to push our restaurant so people know we are here. We are open about offering a wide variety of food, business as usual,” Lo said.
Law says her restaurant also has a drive-thru, which has saved her business from crisis caused by the pandemic. Ms. Lo, she explained, has customers who are still hesitant to eat at her restaurant.
“Rochester is once again an engaging community, as many cities across the country have struggled considerably with the pandemic. We continue to encourage locals to return downtown or work remotely. Do you know we’re going back downtown? We’re really looking forward to seeing you all for dinner and lunch and looking forward to getting back on track to support you all in the future.” Ward said.
