The final CBS Sports 1-131 rankings for the 2022 season placed Florida Football as the 50th-best team overall, finishing the 2022 season as the 10th-best team in the SEC.
The Gators closed out the game with a 30-3 loss to Oregon State in the Las Vegas Bowl. Florida’s only scoring came late in the fourth quarter, and the Orange-Blue scoring streak extended to his 436th straight game from 1988. It is the longest scoring streak in NCAA history, 57 games longer than the next closest team.
Florida finished the 2022 season with a 6-7 record, five of which came from SEC play.
Prior to that, they lost to in-state rival Florida State, 45-38. Florida’s performance was an autumn microcosm. They started strong and he took a 41-21 lead in the first half before a disastrous third quarter separated them for good. A final push in the fourth quarter was brave, but it wasn’t enough to finally give the Gators the lead.
Needless to say, they didn’t participate in the conference championship week.
The attack ended as one of the more rushed offensives in the country, as Montrell Johnson returned to Napier’s system and established himself as a power. But Trevor Etienne’s explosiveness and speed have made him a bright spot this season.
With more than 20 players leaving the program via transfer portals or in preparation for the NFL Draft, Billy Napier is rebuilding many rosters this offseason. There are 21 players with at least 18 potential blue chips (4 or 5 stars). Napier has also been active on the transfer portal, with several players expected to make an immediate impact next season.
