NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell has publicly addressed a divorce filing alleging she had an affair with a former member of the security team.
At a press conference on Wednesday, January 25, Mayor Cantrell said the allegations were false.
In the filing, NOPD officer Jeffrey Vappie’s wife is Latoya Cantrell, a source confirms to Fox 8 that her husband is “Mrs. LC.”
Cantrell doubled down on the text message she sent to the newspaper reporter on the topic, saying she wasn’t involved.
“This is a personal matter related to the Vappie family, it has nothing to do with me, and frankly neither with you,” Cantrell told Fox 8 reporters. “I responded to it because it relates to my involvement or false allegations. I get them all the time and they haven’t stopped. It’s really funny. They haven’t stopped. I don’t think that will happen.”
“Like I said, based on the false allegations I came up with, by the time I finished this job, I was literally half the city of New Orleans being accused of sleeping in both gender and pronouns. I am sometimes known as Teedy and other times as Teddy.”
Cantrell’s response follows a series of Fox 8 investigations that showed Cantrell and Vappy spent hours alone on weekdays and late at night in the city-owned Upper Pontalba apartment.
The day after the first story aired last November, Vappie’s wife filed for divorce.
Last week, she amended her divorce petition to Vappie and “Mrs. LC,” she says Vappie admitted to having an affair.

The filing lists the days Vappy’s wife claimed the two “had been having a sexual relationship.”
Many of those days were the same dates Vappie and Cantrell highlighted in their research, where they spent hours together in their apartment.
Experts told Fox 8 that any relationship would likely violate NOPD and city policy.
Vappie was reassigned when our story began airing during his timesheet investigation. Vappie’s attorney says he never admitted to his wife that he had an affair with anyone .
