Ashwaubenon, Wisconsin — Green Bay Packers fans had to wait a week to receive yet another holiday gift.
They got it when the team beat the Minnesota Vikings at home at Lambeau Field on Sunday afternoon.
What you need to know

- Fans bullish on playoff chances after slow start to season
- The team’s playoff chances hinge on next weekend’s game against Detroit
For Idaho’s Peter Lychtenham, the win was a literal gift. A trip to Title Town came from his girlfriend.
“It ended up being… the best Christmas I’ve ever had,” he said after the game. “And the Packers trampled them.”
A New Year’s Day game that seemed irrelevant weeks ago took on new significance after the results of last week’s NFL game kept the Packers in the playoff hunt.
“It was good because it made it more special for them to come here to win,” Reichtnam said.
After a slow start to the season, fan Nathan Ricketts said the team made the final weeks of the season a cliffhanger.
“We played against a team that looks really good and is backed in the NFC,” said the Illinois resident. “It’s good to see us playing well.”
He has some confidence in the team’s chances at home against the Detroit Lions next weekend.
“It’s very important,” he said of the importance of the final game of the regular season. “They beat us the first time we played against them and now they have the ability to win and go to the playoffs. It means everything. It’s great.”
Leichtnam felt the same boost of confidence after the match. And some more.
“Cold,” he said with a laugh. “Optimistic. I’m sure they will win.”
