Hundreds of Tanzanians attended a moving memorial service on Friday for a student killed after being drafted into prison fighting for Russia in Ukraine.
Nemes Tarimo was serving a seven-year term for an undisclosed crime when Russia’s Wagner mercenary group recruited him for promises of payment and release after the war, Tanzanian officials said this week. .
After his death on October 24, his body arrived in Tanzania on Friday, where tears were gathered at Dar es Salaam’s Julius Nyerere International Airport to receive his remains.
