Buffalo, NY (WIVB) — The next time you receive a parking ticket, you may want to take a closer look at the ticket.
That’s because scammers are using technology to create fake parking tickets, and a new scam that looks surprisingly real is taking place across the country.
The Better Business Bureau is warning people about this new scam.
BBB communications director Matt Krueger said the scammers are targeting cars with out-of-state license plates and using 3D printers to print the tickets.
“It looks real. You might think you have a city seal or a state seal on it and you have to pay a $50 fine or something like that, but it’s actually someone, not the municipality where you parked your car.” It fits in your pocket,” says Kruger. He said.
Krueger said it is likely that cash app payments will be required, which is a serious red flag, and that they will be asked to pay on the website, which could cause more problems. there is.
“What that can cause problems for them is that they can get your personal and banking information. It can also infect you, to steal your identity,” Kruger said.
Krueger said the BBB doesn’t know anything about fraud in western New York, but is urging people to know the rules and be aware of potential scams.
“Be sure you know the rules wherever you go, make sure you’re parking legally, and if you have any issues, check with your local municipality or authorities before paying,” Krueger said.
