Conrad, a former sales and marketing executive, became interested in starting his own business after struggling to find another job. Opening his own coffee shop provided a promising career path for him.
“I spent a lot of time in coffee shops while I was job hunting,” he recalls. “I also started drinking coffee at a very young age because my grandmother, who is Brazilian, was a huge coffee lover.”

Conrad said he was encouraged that Crimson Cup supports independent coffee shops without paying franchise fees or royalties.
“Once I got into sales, I didn’t want to be tied to a contract or have expectations from a franchisor,” he said. “I wanted the freedom to change and adapt my shop to my needs.”
After reading Ubert’s book, he connected with Crimson Cup’s 7 Steps coffee shop startup consulting team. They guided him every step of the way, from creating a strong coffee shop business plan, to designing and laying out the coffee shop, to hiring and training staff.
