The 2023 ranking shows how the franchise industry is changing in response to evolving trends in culture, economy and consumer needs. After a difficult few years due to the pandemic, quick-service restaurants continue to recover. There are 101 in the top 500 this year, compared to 97 last year. (Not to mention 6 out of the top 10 and 29 out of the top 100 are QSR brands). While older big brands rank higher, many newer brands are seeing strong growth, especially in the coffee, sandwich, smoothie/juice and tea subcategories.
This year’s list highlights the Health & Wellness category, especially with subcategories for Assisted Stretching, Chiropractic Services, CBD and Eye Care. The same goes for maintenance, which includes subcategories such as drywall repair, electrical services, and pest control. His 78 franchises ranked this year, compared to 72 last year.
Pets are also doing very well, with 12 franchises on the list this year compared to 8 last year, with the dog training and pet store subcategories seeing the biggest growth.
