After a nationwide search, Christen Engel was named USC Aiken’s Vice Chancellor for Communications and Marketing and Chief of Staff.
Engel, a seasoned higher education executive with experience in leading and developing strategic marketing and communications strategies to increase student enrollment and engagement with the campus and community, will take office on February 1. It’s a schedule.
In her new role, Engel will lead and directly oversee the university’s marketing, communications and special events areas and will be responsible for a variety of executive team initiatives supporting the Office of the Chancellor.

Engel’s previous experience includes roles as Vice President of Marketing and Communications for Augusta University and Augusta University Health, leading Georgia’s first university consolidation and three institutions leading to increased visibility, enrollment, and engagement. A USCA alumnus and Aiken resident, Engel focuses on improving access to higher education, particularly in South Carolina, and strategies to promote student opportunities, workforce and economic development, and community relations. Passionate about public-private partnerships.
Engel was named Best Nonprofit Communicator of the Year by PR News in 2022 and was named one of the Top 10 Young Professionals to Watch by Augusta Metro Chamber of Commerce in 2019. ‘ was developed under Engel’s leadership and he has been named one of the world’s best college marketing campaigns.
She is a member of the Executive Committee of the Public Relations Society of America’s Counselors to Higher Education and former Chair of the University of Georgia’s Public Relations Advisory Council. She also graduated from her Leadership Augusta in 2015.
Engel holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from USCA and a Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration from Georgia Southern University.
