Enable automatic captions for apps and FaceTime on iPhone and iPad

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again – iOS and iPadOS are littered with great features. Today, I’m going to introduce you to another useful tool that many people will find useful: Live Captions.

Available in beta with iOS 16 and iPadOS 16, enable this feature to see real-time generated captions of what’s being said in the app or FaceTime. This feature is intended for people with hearing problems and is available to anyone who wants to use it for any reason.

When this feature is enabled, captions are generated using “on-device intelligence” so no data is sent to Apple and your privacy is not compromised. Additionally, this feature is only available if you have an iPhone 11 or newer phone, or if you have an iPad mini 5 or newer, iPad 8 or newer, iPad Air 3 or newer, iPad Pro all models 11 inch and 12.9 inch. Available. iPad Pro 3rd generation or newer.

The feature can also be used for live conversations taking place around you, but Apple says live captions are unreliable in “high-risk emergencies.”

Note: This feature works only if your primary language is set to English (US or Canada).

Step 1. Launch Settings on your iPhone or iPad.

Step 2. Tap Accessibility.

Step 3. Scroll down and tap Auto Subtitles (Beta).

Step 4. Enable the Live Captions switch at the top and enable Live Captions for FaceTime at the bottom.

A floating overlay appears on the display with the name of the app generating the audio and real-time captions below.[ライブ キャプション]go to the menu[外観]you have the option to customize the appearance of these captions.
