At least five people were reported missing on Wednesday in central Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), a day after a bridge collapsed to allow trucks to pass, according to a consensus source.
Witnesses said the Lobua Bridge, which spans the river of the same name, gave way to a truck laden with construction materials when it crossed the bridge on its way to Tshikapa, the capital of Kasai province.
“There were 10 people in the truck. One of them refused to get into the machine, but the others were adamant,” said Hubert Mbombo, head of the sector where the accident occurred. explained.

Kasai MP Guy Mahta, meanwhile, put the number of missing persons at seven, deputy governor Gaston Nkor at five, including two men, one woman and two children. Collapses are frequent in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, especially during the rainy season, due to the poor condition of the road bridges and heavy loads.
