Racine, Wisconsin — Downtown Racine is seeing a lot of new small business growth.
35 new businesses will open in 2022, according to data from Downtown Racine Corporation, which works to promote business downtown.
Their data also shows that nine businesses closed downtown during the same period.
Many small businesses continue to face economic challenges, which indicates that downtown Racine is turning around.
Kelly Kruse serves on the board of directors of Racine Downtown Corporation. Kruse said she was happy to see the city grow.
Kruse acknowledges various new business grants for growth, but says there are other factors as well.
She said downtown businesses are working together to promote each other.
Hosting multiple events throughout the year and driving people downtown also makes a big difference.
“All of this means that people have to walk back and forth between Main Street and 6th Avenue and physically enter the store to enjoy the event,” says Kruse. “We want people to go out and walk down the street and look in the window and say, ‘I want to shop there.'”
Danae Vinson opened one of 35 new businesses in town. Vinson owns Goddess Nail and Beauty Bar, which opened in April 2022.
Vinson said he appreciates the collaborative efforts of many businesses to promote downtown.
Vinson said he believes the more types of businesses that exist, the more likely it is to attract people to the community.
“They can tell patrons to come here and get their nails done. say.
Vinson received a local small business grant to help start his business. She said it made a difference in generating the funds to start her business.
