Albany, GA (WALB) – Several businesses in downtown Albany still have boarded up windows days after several buildings were demolished.
Witnesses say the men threw themselves on glass windows and doors. Missy Whitney, owner of Paisley Figg, feels safe downtown despite the incident.
“I feel very safe downtown.
Whitney has been a business owner for nearly three years. In the meantime, she said she didn’t see much of a problem, but she got a call this week when she was out of town.
“My employee comes here Wednesday morning. I was in Atlanta. She called me and sent me a picture that looked like someone had broken into my store,” Whitney said. Told.
Whitney said the person who broke the glass didn’t enter her store—he also broke the glass at other businesses nearby, including Homerun Foods and World Finance.
Whitney said the person who ran into her door probably wasn’t trying to steal anything. I just threw myself from it,” he added.
Since then the glass has been cleaned and the door replaced.
Albany Police Headquarters is located very close to Whitney’s store. He said he always responds quickly.
“There was this guy who came in and started doing something. I called them right away. They were here in less than a minute,” Whitney said.
Whitney plans to install more cameras and hopes the city will add more lighting downtown.
