Officials with the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation are investigating a Christmas-themed drag show traveling through the state, claiming the show is a “sexually explicit performance directed at children.” .
Dubbed a “Drag Queen Christmas,” the event took place in Fort Lauderdale on Monday and Miami on Tuesday as part of a national tour. Shows are also scheduled for Orlando and Clearwater this week.
In a statement, a spokesman for Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said the agency was actively investigating Monday’s Fort Lauderdale show.
NBC 6 has reached out to Gov. DeSantis’ office to see if Tuesday’s Miami show is also under investigation, but has yet to hear back.
“Exposing a child to sexually explicit activity is a crime in Florida and such conduct violates the department’s licensing standards for operating businesses and holding liquor licenses,” Brian said. Griffin said
A spokesperson for the Broward Center of the Performing Arts said the show was intended for guests over the age of 18.

Dozens of people representing local Catholic groups stood by to protest the Miami event on Tuesday, but counter-protesters turned up in support of the event.

A local anti-fascist organization campaigned across the street in support of the show.
One supporter said, “They protest the holidays, they protest the fun, they protest the family.” This is a kind of self-defense, community defense.”
Famous drag queens like Nina West, who famously competed in RuPaul’s Drag Race, and Trinity the Tuck were on the show Monday and Tuesday.
NBC 6 has reached out to Nina West and Trinity the Tuck for comment, but has yet to hear back.
The investigation follows a ban on Florida from taking hormones or undergoing surgery to treat gender identity disorders under a rule approved in November by state medical officials at DeSantis’ request. It was done after
