Watch: Entrepreneurs and Investors David Schottenstein In his keynote speech at the Chosen Business Conference in Crown Heights, he spoke out against “gray area” business deals based on his own experience.
The second annual Chosen Business Conference, an expo celebrating Lubavitch-owned businesses and supporting entrepreneurs in the community, will be held Sunday at Crown Heights.
Hosted by Crown Heights Young Entrepreneurs (CHYE), the event is billed as the largest and most anticipated local business event of the year with over 60 booths.
This time the organizer is David “Daddy” Farkas Founder of RFK Financial and affiliated with MassMutual Metro NY, a well-known life insurance agency.
Held at the Beis Rivkah Rose Hall, the expo offers trade fairs and networking opportunities with business leaders and investors around the tri-state area.
Kicked off with keynotes from a series of entrepreneurial and activist investors David Schottenstein It’s titled, “There’s Only One CEO… A Key Lesson I’ve Learned Hard.” He detailed some of the legal issues he faced and how he came out of them stronger than ever.
Schottenstein is the founder and former CEO of Privé Revaux sunglasses and has founded and sold multiple companies, including OneWheel, Mizzen & Main, and his latest venture, 7th Heaven Chocolate Co.
The focus of Schottenstein’s talk was bitachon and why entrepreneurs should cultivate faith in Hashem. Bitachon allows entrepreneurs to ensure that they always do business in an ethical and legal manner, avoiding significant financial and legal hurdles.
“The most important message I want to convey is to always remember that blessings come from Hashem,” Schottenstein told COLlive.com ahead of his speech.
“As Flam Jews, and especially as Chassidim of the Rebbe, we are proud of our Bitachon. , we can fail too.It’s not enough to know that Hashem is in charge, which means Hashem is the CEO.
“You have to internalize it. You might think it’s smart to do, but sooner or later you’ll catch up.If you remember where your blessings come from, you won’t do anything a little questionable or unethical in your business.”
In his talk, Schottenstein spoke candidly about his past struggles and the lessons he learned from them.
“Hashem has determined your parnasa in Rosh Hashana, so doing anything questionable or doing what is called the ‘gray area’ will never help. You’ll make as much money as Hashem has allotted you, so you’d better stay far away from even the slightest hint of questionable or unethical things. You won’t save or make extra money by doing something that isn’t 100% “kosher”. Not only will you not get any more, you may come back and be bitten and suffer. Whenever you face the consequences, it’s painful for you, your business, and your family. Trust me, I know from experience.
“Many Fulham business people are taught about the value of giving a very important Tsedaka. In fact, I remember hearing a story from an experienced businessman when I started learning about Tsedaka. That speech had a huge impact on me.Since then, I have always prioritized tzedakah.But we need to talk more about Vitacon.We want the next generation of entrepreneurs to be God ruled. and needs to do a better job of teaching them that bending or breaking the rules not only doesn’t add to their profits, but that doing business one way or the other can pay a horrible price.
