This day in the history of the Crimson Tide:
January 20, 1702: French settlers led by Jean-Baptiste Le Moine de Bienville built Fort Louis de la Mobile on a cliff 27 miles up the Mobile River from Mobile Bay. The settlement, which became known simply as “Mobile”, moved to a permanent location at the mouth of the Mobile River in 1711. From its inception he served as the capital of the Louisiana colony until 1718.
January 20, 1974: Junior defensive tackle Randy Hall was named an Academic All-American. A medical student, Hall’s classroom average was 3.88. His teammate, safety David McMakin, was named second team to his Academic All-American his team.
