Ghanaian authorities will tighten entry restrictions from 6 January, citing rising COVID-19 cases in China.
All air travelers arriving from China must present a negative PCR COVID test result at least 48 hours before departure and undergo another test free of charge upon arrival at Ghana’s Kotoka International Airport.
Ghana Airports Company Limited released updated guidelines on its website on Tuesday, adding:
“All fully vaccinated persons arriving in Ghana are exempt from any form of inspection conducted prior to boarding from the country of origin or upon arrival in Ghana, except for passengers departing from China.”
According to the GACL, non-Ghanaians traveling to Kotoka International Airport with false vaccination certificates will be quarantined and returned to boarding points at their own expense.
“For airlines bringing fully unvaccinated passengers into Ghana, or passengers commencing travel from China who do not have a negative COVID-19 PCR test result valid 48 hours prior to departure, a $3500 There will be additional charges,” he said.
Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs also announced the new regulations in a press release. He also advised citizens to avoid unnecessary travel to China.
