One of London’s busiest shopping districts is trying to compete with online shopping by encouraging shopping on the main street with its own loyalty app.
The LoyalFree app was launched in Marble Arch to bring city workers into their offices and support the local economy by offering discounts and deals at pubs, eateries and shops.
Kay Buxton, chief executive of the Business Improvement District, told The Standard it was “the right time” to begin planning. I used to have to over-promote myself.
she said: Timing was critical.
“People are working in offices on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays due to the coronavirus.
“There’s a complete storm of people not coming in, and for the cost of living, they don’t want to spend money. We need to do what we can to keep the outlets alive.”
“It just seems like the right time. This is the time we should invest, roll it out and show the offer we have. It reflects.”
Independent retailers have signed deals alongside major chains such as Wagamama, Paperchase, Ryman, Le Pain Quartidien, The Pickles Hen, London Grace, The Gate and Italian Greyhound. At the moment, about 80% of the offers are food related, but this is set to change as the app becomes more established.
Buxton said the move to action was requested by office owners as a means of finding ways to make the area more attractive to employees.
“Several businesses are exiting the city right now,” she continued.
“There are concerns. Companies that have moved in have asked what we can do and have suggested what they can offer in return.”
The app is available from Park Lane along Edgware Road in the south, Paddington Green in the north, Connaught Village in the west and Marylebone in the east. The scheme kicked off with his 25 live offers, and he has already had over 300 redemptions since going online on Thursday.
Buxton added: Similar schemes are now being adopted elsewhere in London and can be seen across the country…people are starting to see it as a solution. ”
The LoyalFree App can be downloaded from the App Store, Google Play or by visiting www.loyalfree.co.uk.
