Playing “clean” rap and hip-hop and focusing on faith may seem to limit the station to a niche audience, but HCR’s expansion has been very short-lived. It was a huge success. Just eight months after debuting on satellite radio, HCR has amassed her over 5 million listeners.
“There has always been the question of whether there is a market for Christian hip-hop music,” added Roseau. “5 million subscribers are above average listeners seen across 14 shows and music mixes playing a wide range of Christian hip-hop artists, and given her engagement, the genre has broad viability. I think it shows.”
