Lubbock is set to experience a boom in business in 2023 with many new restaurants, shops and businesses. Some current stores are planning to expand or move to larger spaces. Here’s what we know is coming in the new year.

what: The 70,000-square-foot commercial development “provides everything an office needs.” Although not yet announced as of December 20, 2022, the development already has a list of companies ready to move in.
There will be a mix of rooftop restaurants, tea or coffee shops, banks, and local and national retailers. Plaza Restaurant will also open its second store there.
In an October article, Accredited Commercial Investment Member Randy Egenbacher said: “People come from all over the world and we look forward to it. There are some famous names out there.”

Bombshells Restaurant and Bar
what: According to the company’s Facebook page, “Bombshells is the modern embodiment of the vintage era. A 1940s USO club where GIs could mingle, have fun and find great food and drink. The business offers an extensive menu of items such as the Betty Boop Wrap and the Green Beret Burger.

Dilish Sweets & Gelato
what: Upcoming D’lish business owner Amy Hayes has announced plans to turn her love of baking into Lubbock’s newest bakery and gelato shop.
“I’m excited to see it all come together,” Hayes said in a November article.

when: The scheduled opening date is January 5th.

Frost Brewhouse
what: This next brewery’s website says, “Make sure you can drink Lubbock water one glass at a time.” In 2023, the pair of Texas Tech University science graduates Trevor and Kayla Frost want this microbrewery to be a casual space serving exceptional beer.

Johnny Fab’s Cadillac Grill & Bar
what: According to its Facebook page, the restaurant has an open rotisserie, an oyster bar, a mesquite woodfire grill, and a full bar.

K-pot
what: KPOT is a Korean barbecue and hotpot restaurant chain that allows guests to create their own hotpot and barbecue at their table. Lubbock will be the latest spot in its rapid expansion, opening in Old Firs near South Plains Mall.

Mulligan’s Golf Bar
what: According to the company’s Facebook page, “Mulligans is a world-class simulator with a full-service bar and an interactive ‘sports bar and grill’ designed for year-round, all-weather golf play.
where: 4525 Milwaukee, Suite 300.
when: Unannounced, likely early 2023.
Oceans Behavioral Hospital
what: Oceans Behavioral Hospital, part of Plano-based Oceans Healthcare, provides inpatient and outpatient behavioral therapy services for people 50 and older.
In a November article, Dax Parker, vice president of market development, said, “The need is so great that the entire community and the medical community are opening their hands wide.” And we really hope to become a true mental health backbone for our community.”

when: Mid-January. The ribbon cutting is set for January 10, 2023.

salata salad kitchen
what: This Houston-based franchise advertises a wide range of salad and wrap options with fresh ingredients. The company announced it was looking for a franchisee and had multiple potential applicants as of November 29. Once a franchisee is found, he may open one or more stores within six to nine months. The company calls Lubbock “the gateway to West Texas.”
where: Not confirmed.
when: Late 2023, pending franchisee.

texas roadhouse
what: Texas Roadhouse has been located off South Loop 289 since it opened on August 19, 2002. The company has confirmed that they will be moving to a new building and closing the previous location for the New Year.
Amanda Norton, a spokesperson for the company, said reasons for the move include the need for more dining space and parking.

when: Spring 2023.

toon totam
what: Toot’n Totum is a chain of travel centers and fuel stations based in Amarillo. The company is new to the Lubbock market and has announced multiple locations chanting “Lubbock or bust.” Some stores, such as Wendy’s and Mitch’s, have restaurants, and all offer a “fast and fresh” food program. The expansion will create approximately 350-400 jobs in the Lubbock market.

tropical foods
what: Tropicale Foods, which has created hundreds of jobs and $66.8 million in capital investment, has announced it will build a facility in Lubbock. This is the first facility in Texas. The company is known for its La Michoacana and Herados Mexico Paleta brands. The facility will initially manufacture paletas and later expand to bolis, cups and other innovative products.

when: The facility hopes to start production in 2023. No exact date has been announced.

uptown cheapskate

western bank
what: In August, Western Bank built a new banking center in Lubbock. This would be his third location in Hub City and his tenth overall in Texas.

when: Western Bank hopes to open in the third quarter of 2023.

In 2022, Leprino will build a new facility and Dillard’s has announced a move. These locations won’t be ready until 2024 or 2025.
