Community Pack Riverside Restaurant on Last Day of Business

jacksonville, florida – Judging by the crowds inside the Southern Roots Filling Station on Saturday morning, it would be hard to believe it was the last day the popular vegan restaurant was open for business. I got in line for it and turned the corner outside the store on King Street.

Alex Hayward, who isn’t vegan, said he was the first person in line on the day it opened.

“I had a newborn when they first opened,” Hayward explained. “Every day I pushed him in his stroller, drank coffee, and had a moment of comfort while the kids slept and took a nap. He’s been here every day for probably two years.”

Southern Roots Filling Station owners JP Salvat and his wife Mariah Goelz announced the closure on social media this week. The couple noted the uncertainty surrounding a potential significant rent increase, although it was a difficult decision. I said thank you for giving it to me.

“Unbelievable, 100% honest and unbelievable,” Salvat said. “It’s been like this all week and I can’t believe it. Thank you.”

Robin Lanigan-Johnston is one of those loyal customers saying goodbye.

“It’s a testament to how much the community supports this place and its owners,” Lanigan-Johnston said. “And what they stand for and how much the community misses them.” you would think.”

Even though this chapter is over, the support from our loyal customers remains.

“I hope they move forward,” Hayward said. “They keep going and they’ll get through whatever their next venture is.”

It’s the last day in business, but it’s a fun memory that will last a lifetime.

Southern Roots isn’t the only beloved local business that won’t exist in 2023. The San Marco Theater announced Wednesday that it will close on Sunday.
