Gilbert, Arizona — Veterans-owned Cider Corps Cider closed its Gilbert location to the public on Wednesday.
The difficult move comes after two years of occupied real estate development and business woes due to the economy.
On the Cider Corps website, co-owner Jason Duren explains:
“We worked with the landlord to develop the space with the understanding that the building had a permit and an official occupancy certificate from the town of Gilbert. Unfortunately, this is not the case and Our Gilbert business struggled, coupled with some other difficulties to operate fully as a business. has been sold and there is only one option left: return to its home base in Mesa.”
Especially since the Mesa location is smaller than the Gilbert location and cannot accommodate all the equipment, moving it would be very expensive.
“Unfortunately, due to the height of the ceilings here and the height of the mesa location, we will be selling a lot of the larger tanks because the ceiling heights will be significantly shorter,” Durren said. .
“We built [the Gilbert] I have space to fit this, so I need to build next [Mesa] It’s the kind of space that fits all the new stuff,” he told ABC15.
As such, the business has turned to the community for help during a difficult time.
But overcoming challenges is nothing new to Duren.
That’s how he first got into the cider business.
“In 2012, I was deployed in the Marine Corps, hit two IEDs, and had two traumatic brain injuries, so when I came back, I went through a lot of different treatments and a sort of relearning process. was
He said learning how to make hard cider with his brother was one of the remedies to help him rebuild his processes and skills, eventually becoming a business venture.
