“Losing $100 at the beginning of the year is never fun,” said one Paulding County victim, who requested anonymity.
She says it appears the hackers used her Chick-fil-A account information to withdraw money from her checking account.
“That’s the scariest part. What information do they have?” she apparently asked the hackers.
A Paulding County woman says the money withdrawn from her bank account was loaded into her Chick-fil-A app.
“I think the next step would be to contact Chick-fil-A to see if you’ll get your money back or will you be spending $100 on Chick-fil-A,” she wondered.
This is the same story that countless people have been telling on social media across the country over the past few days. A Chick-fil-A customer who says the money has been deducted from his bank account and loaded into the app.
Trend story:
Chick-Fil-A has released a statement following the reports. The Atlanta-based company called it “suspicious” activity.
“While we are investigating what happened and how certain customers were targeted in this fraudulent activity, it was not due to a compromise of Chick-fil-A’s internal systems.”
The company added that it is committed to protecting customer data and is working to resolve the issue.
In the case of the Paulding County woman, apparently the hackers never used the money loaded into her app, she says, but it’s unclear if that’s true for all victims.
“It’s just amazing that something like this could happen to such a big company,” she said.
Chick-fil-A wants victims to contact the company by calling 1-866-232-2040.
