news release
The story of entrepreneurship and innovation lives on here in Warsaw, Indiana, the Orthopedic Capital of the World®. Yet, like so many other parts of Kosciuszko County, there are still plenty of “well-kept secrets” to share.
GemViz, a local medical tech startup, adds value to the evolving medical device landscape by offering services that complement the local geographic region. GemViz is a medical technology development company that provides digital technology solutions to advance healthcare insights and improve patient outcomes.
GemViz was founded by Mike Cusick, Chief Executive Officer, Jody Claypool, Chief Operating Officer, and Vinay Tikka, Chief Technology Officer. With more than 70 years of combined experience, the founding team has a unique and extensive background in the medical device industry, including business marketing, product development, and medical software.
Coincidentally, the GemViz team of Cusick, Claypool and Tikka met at a Kosciusko Economic Development Corporation event, where they first discussed business ideas. It may not have been the proverbial big idea that started with napkins, but early conversations took place over beers at Hoploor Brewing in Warsaw.
“Jodi and Vinay had developed some great ideas and intellectual property and wanted to take it further. We decided that it was,” says Cusick.
GemViz services include development and market strategies for moving innovative ideas from concept to commercialization in the medical technology arena. “We are currently working on a software platform that will unify patient information so that both physicians and patients have the information they need to improve patient engagement, make confident diagnoses and improve outcomes. You can access the information,” Cusick said.
Alan Tio, CEO of KEDCO, said, “As a community rooted in medical devices, especially in the orthopedic sector, GemViz is focused on providing medical technology solutions that complement our strengths in implants and devices. We are excited to be supporting a startup like this.”
“We have a strong backbone in our devices, and there are many opportunities to expand our focus to include technical support.”
With its entrepreneurial spirit and initiatives to support the medical device sector, KEDCO continues to listen to communities, identify needs and solve problems. Last year, KEDCO announced a partnership with his NEXT Studios to bring a medical technology business accelerator to Kosciuszko County.
The Kosciusko MedTech Accelerator Studio was developed to help medical technology start-ups build pipelines that complement their existing product development and manufacturing capabilities. GemViz joined the accelerator program last fall. His one-on-one collaboration with his program partner NEXT Studios has helped GemViz discover new insights and refine its business model.
“We found our experience with NEXT Studios to be invaluable, especially in the early stages of development. Their process allowed us to challenge our original concepts and business models, making us more attractive in the market. We were able to quickly improve our product offerings, saving us a lot of time and resources,” says Cusick.
KEDCO continues to seek opportunities to bridge gaps, build partnerships, and support new ideas and innovations in Kosciuszko County. In the coming weeks, KEDCO will launch a program to leverage local expertise to build and bring ideas and startups to life. “The ‘market maker program’ combines local entrepreneurs and companies, or what we call ‘providers’ and ‘developers’, to bring their ideas or his IP to life,” he said. says.
The program connects local entrepreneurs and businesses with experienced developers from key industries, while providing access to business resources, capital, and opportunities to build valuable relationships through collaboration and partnerships. Useful for building programs. ”
This program acts as a conduit for good ideas to be implemented. ‘Providers’ share ideas, and ‘developers’ take ideas from concept to solution,” he said Claypool. “The program provides local entrepreneurs and innovators with a safe, low-risk and cost-effective development pathway.”
“We are excited to support both entrepreneurs and in-house entrepreneurs with this new service,” Tio said. “We understand that companies at all stages of development have ‘to-do lists’ that exceed their capabilities. As such, our matchmaking helps connect these providers with developers who can provide additional capabilities. ”
