Senegal will face Algeria in the final of the 7th African Nations Championship (CHAN).
The Senegalese qualified by beating Madagascar 1-0 on Tuesday night (January 31).
Several Madagascar defenders failed to notice Pape Diallo’s dash into the box, and when goalkeeper Zacanina Lakotoa Simbola accidentally flew off the line, he nodded to the net.
Continually dominant Senegal squandered many second-half chances to extend their lead, with Sheikh Diouf substituted shortly after missing a 71st-minute sitter.
This put an end to Barea’s historical odyssey. In fact, it was the first time a Madagascar national team had reached this stage in a continental event.
In the other semi-final, Algeria clinched the biggest win in CHAN’s 15-year history. Niger lost him 5-0.
Algiers club USM’s 25-year-old forward, top scorer of the tournament, Aymen Mahios, scored two goals that qualified for Algeria.
It was the widest win in the CHAN semi-finals, beating the 4-0 hidden point Morocco gave hosts Cameroon two years ago in the last tournament.
A crowd of 40,000 is expected for the final at the Stade Nelson Mandela in Algiers on Saturday.
CHAN is a unique national team competition as it is limited to football players playing for their home country clubs.
