Algeria will face Niger in the 7th African Nations Championship (CHAN) on Tuesday (31 January). In another semi-final tonight, Senegal will face Madagascar in Algiers. The match will take place at Nelson Mandela Stadium at 20:00 (UTC +1).
Algeria advanced to the last four after defeating Ivory Coast on Friday (27 January) with an injury-time goal from Aymen Mahios.
They are currently cruising against Niger. First his CHAN semi-final started at 5pm (UTC +1) and within 45 minutes the team led by Majid Bugera scored his 3 goals.
Nigerien Boureima Katakoré scored for his side in the 45th minute.
Ahead of the fixture, Algeria’s head coach Majid Bucherer praised the qualities of his opponents: “Niger are an experienced team, they are very cohesive, attacking and play the ball. “Niger are in the semi-finals and they deserve it. They didn’t concede and they knocked out the big teams.”
This was clearly not enough to stop the Algerians, even though they used a strong win (2-0) over Ghana to secure a place in the semi-finals.
The host country will be participating for the second time since Sudan in 2011. In Group A he finished the group phase clean sheet with 9 goals.
Niger head coach Haruna Dura and Boubacar Somana also spoke to the media ahead of the game.
The final will take place on February 4th. CHAN defending champions Morocco are out of the tournament after a dispute with Algeria.
